VROS: Gaze Detection

One of the greatest benefits of immersive virtual reality is being able to track where the user is looking – in doing this, you can  direct the users attention to specific objects or features through asymmetrical aesthetic changes eg, change in colour or use of animation. This can be used to bring vibrancy and attention to user interfaces.

Initially I set up a very basic scene using a cube with a gaze trigger. I then applied this to the current UI/Environment i was working on to give it another test within a more appropriate scene.

In terms of the use of this feature as an interaction, I feel that this could be used to display text/captions on objects of which can’t be easily explained through icons or visual appearance.

As shown below, I used this for photo captions/headers. I feel it works well because it isn’t very intrusive, and its additive to the experience of media browsing.
